Infrastructure 2.0 Event- First 5 YouTube Episodes

February 02 2009 by Greg Ness (Infoblox)

Thanks to YouTube and our event producer you can now view the recent Infoblox Cisco live streaming event on demand and in short episodes.  To help you get to the episode of most interest I’ve described and linked to the first 5 episodes.  All are viewable by YouTube.

Introduction with Infoblox VP Richard Kagan

5:27

Episode 2 kicked off by Infoblox CTO and Founder Stuart Bailey talking about Infrastructure 1.0; including comments from Cisco Senior Director Douglas Gourlay; Bailey talks about the negative impact of manual processes on the network.

5:04

Episode 3 starts with Cisco’s Gourlay explaining why data center has become a dirty word for business and how it must become more relevant to business; he also talks about the impact of virtualization and why CIOs need to pay attention; Cisco Director Rahul Tripathi then adds by talking about the challenges facing branch networks, including more branches and more employees at the branch and the impact of consolidation and other initiatives.

7:44

Episode 4- Infoblox VP Richard Kagan asks Cisco’s Gourlay why CIOs need to become more aware of the strategic importance of core network services; he explains why more employees are being issued higher numbers of IP addresses and that will drive higher costs in addition to the movement dynamics introduced by virtualization.  Gourlay also talked about signoffs required for moving IT assets, while virtualization makes the actual move easier. The weak link in the chain is the use of spreadsheets for managing IP addresses for organizations with more than 10000 employees.  IP address management freeware shipping with some vendor offerings is merely a convenience feature not sufficient for enterprise use.  These solutions weren’t designed to scale.

Episode 5- Infoblox’s Bailey talks about what Infoblox does, and how core network service automation addresses the weak link that Cisco’s Gourlay describes.  Infoblox was the first to bring core network services into the network infrastructure with physical and virtual appliances.  Cisco’s Tripathi agrees that DNS/DHCP has been promoted as a convenience feature and that it really needs to be a strategic focus.  Network pros should care because they have to best utilize existing resources to support new initiatives and new demands on the network.  Cisco’s Gourlay never received a 3AM call during his IT days praising the availability of the network; they were always problem calls.  User expectations of the network are higher than ever as the challenges escalate and budgets are limited.
